Indian Power Utilities Post Strong Q1 Growth Amid Nuclear Expansion Plans
India's power utilities demonstrated robust financial performance in Q1 FY27, supported by elevated electricity demand. Adani Power led thermal-sector growth with 28 per cent year-on-year net sales expansion to ₹17,515.6 crore, raising its long-term capacity target to 45 GW and pursuing nuclear opportunities pending regulatory clarity on the SHANTI Bill. NTPC recorded ₹50,741 crore in net sales, up 8 per cent annually, while identifying land sites for early-stage nuclear ventures and targeting 150 GW capacity by 2032 and 250 GW by 2037. The utility is increasing annual capital expenditure from ₹1.2 lakh crore to ₹1.4 lakh crore under a ₹16.86 lakh crore broader outlay. TATA posted 6 per cent year-on-year net sales growth to ₹19,051.3 crore, with execution of its 5.3 GW renewable and 4.5 GW pumped-storage pipeline positioned as a key performance driver. State-owned BHEL achieved profitability in its first quarter after eight years, with order book expansion to ₹2.6 lakh crore supporting equipment supply momentum.
